Music Program
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
Our Story
Music Ministry at FPC has been a vital part of our congregation since the beginning!
Currently, our Chancel Choir is an azmaing group of voluteneers + paid section leaders. They rehearse weekly (September - May) and present two choral anthems every Sunday, lead hymns and service music and present two concerts annually. They sing a variety of styles - classical, gospel, spiritual, folk, renaissance, contemporary - and strive to highlight the liturgical theme presented via readings and sermon every Sunday.
Collectively the Chancel Choir provides over 10,000 volunteer hours every season and presents 75+ different choral anthems every season.
We are grateful for donations to our music program - private donors and Plymouth Congregational Endowment - which allows us to employ six singers to augment the chancel choir.
Major choral works have included:
"Rejoice in the Lamb" (Britten); "Mass in G" (Schubert); "Requiem" (Faure); "Requiem" (Rutter); "Little Jazz Mass" (Chilcott); "Christmas Day" (Holst); "Christus Natus Est" (McDowell); "Winter's Rose" (Martin); "Christmas Cantata" (Pinkham); "Little Organ Mass" (Haydn); "Songs for the Journey" (Siegfried)
BELLS OF FIRST rings 3-4 octave Schulmerich hand bells and 3 octave Schulmerich hand chimes.
Under the leadership of Darin Showalter, the Bells of First continues to provide music monthly (September - May) for worship services. They also play a series of concerts at local assisted living and senior living complexes to bring music and praise to our community that are restricted in their mobility.
